ELEANOR-JANE McCARTNEY
graduated as a mature student with a Commendation in Fine and Applied Art Associate Bachelor Degree from the University of Ulster Magee, 2007.
Living in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) she is inspired by her local landscape, the sea, river and life it supports. She is also fascinated by the concept of listening to ourselves, each other, the land, creation and Creator. She designs and makes short editions of glass works and welcomes commissions.
She uses different kiln forming techniques of melting and fusing glass to create form and colour combinations. She also uses the Tiffany Stained Glass technique to create 3D glass forms. She established her own studio in 2008 and in 2019 joined with 5 other creatives to form The Causeway Creatives. Where possible the glass she uses is locally recycled glass, alternating with imported commercially available coloured glasses. E-J hosts monthly warm glass workshops in The Boat House Gallery in both Fused and Tiffany glass, passing on her skills to a wider public and also delivers workshops in Fused Glass and Tiffany Glass for Flowerfield Arts Centre, Portstewart.
Prior to studying Fine and Applied Art, E-J worked in administration working as an Executive Administrator in Bombardier, previously known as Short Brothers, Belfast and as a Secretary to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, at the University of Ulster, Coleraine Campus before raising her family of three children at home.
She is a Board Member of the Glass Society of Ireland and Member of Visual Artists Ireland.
